Economic and trade relations between the United States and Taiwan are entering a ‘golden age.’ That came from the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan (AmCham) President Carl Wegner at the release event of the 2026 Taiwan White Paper on Tuesday, June 16.

Wegner said at the event that U.S.-Taiwan bilateral trade reached US$256 billion, and Taiwan has become the United States’ fourth largest trading partner. Wegner was asked about the ongoing Section 301 investigation, which alleges Taiwan, among others, failed to impose and effectively enforce a prohibition on importing goods produced with forced labor. He responded that he was not particularly concerned, since the investigation targets 60 economies, not just Taiwan.

The 2026 Taiwan White Paper identified four priority areas for collaboration with Taiwan’s government: streamlining regulatory frameworks, enhancing energy and infrastructure resilience, boosting partnerships on advanced technologies and innovation, and optimizing governance and talent policies. The document also urged the U.S. Congress to pass double taxation avoidance laws.
