Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) promoted the city’s mango industry at a supermarket media event in New Taipei City on Thursday, July 2, where he highlighted Taiwan’s expanding overseas exports. The promotion coincided with the Tainan International Mango Festival, which is being held in the southern Taiwanese city from June 27 to July 12.

“One out of every two mangoes in Taiwan comes from Tainan, and we not only have quantity, but also very, very good quality,” Huang said at Far Eastern A-Mart's store in Banqiao District.

The promotion comes as Taiwan’s mango industry sees stronger overseas sales. Agriculture Minister Chen Junne-jih (陳駿季) said last month that Taiwan’s mango exports this year are expected to reach 2.5 to 2.6 times last year's volume. Taiwan’s mango yield in 2025 was impacted due to poor weather.

Taiwan exported 836 metric tons of fresh mangoes in 2025, according to agriculture ministry data. Taiwan’s total mango production that year was 102,578 metric tons, with Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea as the top three export markets.

Taiwan is also exporting mangoes to new European markets. Its first shipment to the United Kingdom, a 500-kilogram batch of Tainan Irwin mangoes, flew out in late June, and Irwin mangoes from Taiwan also entered the French market for the first time earlier the same month.

Huang said overseas sales show that consumers abroad recognize the quality of Tainan mangoes, but added that air transport makes the fruit expensive in Europe. “In France, one mango can cost NT$1,000 (around US$31),” the mayor said.
