Typhoon Bavi will impact Taiwan on Friday and Saturday, July 10 and 11, and residents should take serious precautions against ‘destructive’ strong winds and heavy rainfall. That came from National Central University Department of Atmospheric Studies Associate Professor Wu De-rong (吳德榮) on Tuesday, July 7.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued an advisory on Tuesday, warning 11 counties and cities to guard against temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius, due to the influence of a high pressure system over the Pacific Ocean.

Wu said that according to simulations based on latest European models, after a period of high heat lasting through Thursday, July 9, the weather in Taiwan will be impacted by Typhoon Bavi, which will bring ‘destructive’ strong winds and heavy rainfall. Weather conditions will deteriorate across Taiwan on July 10 and begin to improve on the evening of July 11. Wu noted, however, that there are uncertainties about the path of the typhoon, with some simulations predicting a more northwesterly track away from Taiwan and others predicting landfall in the north of the island. He added that neither of the scenarios should be taken lightly.
