President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) said Tuesday that Taiwan’s government will transform the island into a regional technology fundraising hub, positioning itself as Asia’s Nasdaq amid intensifying global competition.
Speaking at the 2026 Taiwan Venture Capital and Private Equity Summit (2026 Asia VC Summit), Lai said Taiwan will build an “innovative capital market” rooted in its semiconductor and artificial intelligence supply chains. The goal is to nurture the next generation of strategic industries and strengthen Taiwan’s global economic role.
Lai noted that the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) launched the Taiwan Innovation Board in October 2025, targeting key sectors including AI, semiconductors, smart manufacturing, biotechnology, and aerospace. The platform integrates multiple market tiers and combines equity and bond financing to support companies at different growth stages. Amendments to the Industrial Innovation Statute also aim to promote digital and green transformation while expanding tax incentives for startups and investors.
Lai said: “The government will continue to refine the system, relax restrictions on foreign companies listing in Taiwan, increase the flexibility of transfers to other boards, and expand a range of financing tools. This will enable the capital market to more effectively support industrial innovation and transformation and to provide enterprises with a more complete path for financing and market development."
