Google’s focus in Taiwan over the next 20 years will be on ‘AI healthcare’ and working with the government and businesses to build a global model for how technology can improve people’s lives. That statement came from Google Taiwan General Manager Tina Lin (林雅芳) at the 2026 Google Cloud Day in Taipei on Thursday, July 9.

Speaking at the event, Lin said Google established its office in the Taipei 101 building 20 years ago, and since then Taiwan has witnessed many important milestones for the company, like the first Android phone, the Chromebook, and the launch of Google’s first data center in Asia-Pacific.

Lin said that Taiwan is facing the challenges of becoming a super-aged society, declining birth rates, the rise in chronic diseases, and structural labor shortages. For these reasons, the company wants to integrate its technologies and products to build a comprehensive and sustained AI-driven healthcare system.

Google has partnered with the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) to build an AI model which helps physicians in diagnosing diabetes. Lin said Google plans to expand its cooperation with the NHIA to improve the prevention and diagnostics of other chronic illnesses.
