The Defense Ministry stated that 10 PLA aircraft and vessels were operating in the waters of the Taiwan Strait from 6 a.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday, July 10. The ministry said that Taiwan’s armed forces are carefully monitoring the situation and ready to respond when necessary.

According to the most recent map of PLA activities in the air and water around Taiwan, released Friday, Taiwanese armed forces detected two small PLA aircraft Thursday between 10 a.m. and about noon. Additionally, five PLA ships and three non-military Chinese government ships were in the surrounding waters, bringing the total number of active units to ten.

This also comes as Taiwan announced a sea warning for Typhoon Bavi Thursday afternoon. The typhoon, currently downgraded to a moderate storm, is expected to continue on its path just north of northern Taiwan on Saturday and move towards China on Sunday.

The Defense Ministry added that Taiwan’s armed forces are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond as necessary with aircraft, ships, and shore-based defense systems.
