The Army Aviation Special Forces Command’s 601st Brigade conducted an emergency fuel resupply drill using a UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter on Tuesday, July 14. This was part of the ongoing five-day joint defense exercise, which will run until July 17.

The helicopter delivered a suspended 500-gallon fuel tank to a designated location, where ground forces then set up an Advanced Aviation Forward Area Refueling System (AAFARS) and established a temporary resupply station.

An anonymous military source said that the AAFARS can be used to establish a temporary fueling station in the field. This method gets around the problem of road and terrain constraints, shortens the setup time, improves the survivability of logistics units, and meets the modern operational demands for rapid repositioning and dispersed deployment.
