Four Taiwanese groups performed at the Prague Folklore Days 2026, held on July 17 and 18 in downtown Prague. Led by Huang Tsun-shin (黃春興), the Taiwanese delegation participated in the event as one of the 56 international artist groups in the lineup.
The four Taiwanese groups include Hildebrand Yu’s (游梓瑜) ocarina band, the Shi-xian Huqin Orchestra (詩弦胡琴樂團), the Taipei Folk Orchestra, and a four-string ensemble (四絃樂團), bringing ocarina, erhu, ukulele, traditional martial arts, and dance to the festival. Their diverse and rich musical texture stood out among European competitors.
During the performance, dancer Li Kao-chia (李高嘉) interpreted the timeless Taiwanese hit “Chasing after you” through traditional martial arts with Taiwan’s national flag in hand. Then, the Shi-xian Huqin Orchestra performed a series of medleys that combine Taiwanese folksongs, indigenous music, Buddhist music, and Mongolian music by erhu.
The epilogue featured the Taipei Folk Orchestra and the Four Strings Ensemble performing pieces, including “Chrysanthemum Terrace” by Jay Chou (周杰倫), with dance integrated into the show.
In addition to the music shows on stage, the Taiwanese artists also participated in a street parade, marching alongside folk bands from other countries.
