Foreign Ministry drone task force Chief Chiang Zhen-wei (江振瑋) met with Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (UCCJ) President Kateryna Yavorska at Tokyo Tower on July 17 to exchange views on strategic issues including joint system development, technology verification, and building a non-red supply chain.

Participants included representatives from the Industrial Technology Research Institute’s (ITRI) Unmanned Technology Innovation Research Institute, as well as companies such as Carbon Based Technology, Accton Technology, 7A Drones, and FairTech. 

The Foreign Ministry stated Monday that Ukraine’s drone industry has expanded rapidly since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war. They said the meeting helped enhance mutual understanding of the drone industry and related business opportunities, support Ukraine’s efforts to build a more resilient non-red supply chain, and create new strategic opportunities for drone diplomacy.
 
According to the ministry, the United States has advanced drone technology, Ukraine has extensive battlefield experience, and Taiwan has small and medium-sized enterprises with strong manufacturing capabilities and advanced ICT expertise. These strengths have attracted overseas companies seeking partnerships with Taiwan’s drone industry. In response, the government plans to consolidate component resources and integrate e-commerce systems to provide international partners with more channels to access Taiwanese drone products.

Yavorska said Ukraine has become a “real-world laboratory for drones” and that the country has rapidly developed defensive, long-range strike, and dual-use drones, while also applying AI systems to drone training. Yavorska also highlighted Taiwan’s strong foundation in manufacturing supply chain components and expressed hope that Taiwan could help Ukrainian drone companies reduce their dependence on Chinese suppliers.
