Tropical depression TD13 over the Pacific Ocean is likely to develop into a tropical storm, classified in Taiwan as a mild typhoon, as early as Friday, July 24. That came on Thursday, July 23, from National Central University Department of Atmospheric Studies Associate Professor Wu De-rong (吳德榮).
Wu wrote in his column for the Meteorological Application and Development Foundation that based on the Central Weather Administration’s typhoon track probability forecast, the tropical depression TD13 is expected to develop into the 12th tropical storm of the season on Friday morning.
Wu said that the storm is expected to pass through the Bashi Channel from Friday afternoon through Saturday and affect waters south of Taiwan before making landfall in Guangdong, China, early on Sunday.
Wu said that according to simulations, the probability of rain in eastern Taiwan will increase significantly starting Friday evening. The rain-affected area will gradually expand on Saturday and Sunday. Eastern, southeastern, and southern Taiwan should watch for heavy rain.
