Search and rescue efforts following the severe landslide that struck Pengshui County, Chongqing, China, earlier this month concluded Thursday, July 30. According to local officials, the disaster resulted in at least 51 deaths, with 10 people still missing, though no Taiwanese are reported to be involved.

The landslide occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on July 17 in a populated area, destroying several buildings along the hillside and pushing earth and debris into the adjacent Wujiang River. According to surveillance footage from the scene, those buried by the landslide included residents, shopkeepers, pedestrians, a bus carrying passengers, and several cars.

Officials stated that as of Thursday, more than 1,100 people had been evacuated. The search operation has rescued 10 people from the disaster zone, three of whom have recovered and been discharged from the hospital.

Pengshui County officials stated yesterday via their WeChat public account that the landslide area has been completely searched, and efforts will be made to restore normal life in the surrounding region as soon as possible. However, the dredging and search operations for the mudslides that flowed into the Wujiang River are still underway.
