United States House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Emeritus Michael McCaul arrived in Taiwan on Sunday. During his stay, he will meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and deliver a keynote address at the Ketagalan Forum. That came in a Foreign Ministry press release on Sunday, August 3.

Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) welcomed McCaul’s arrival and said that the recent string of visits to Taiwan by members of both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives demonstrates firm cross-party support for Taiwan.

The Foreign Ministry said McCaul will deliver the opening keynote speech at the Ketagalan Forum: 2026 Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue. He will share his experience in advancing Indo-Pacific security and strengthening Taiwan-U.S. relations. 

This marks McCaul’s third visit to Taiwan during his time in Congress. He led a congressional delegation to Taiwan in April 2023 during his term as chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and another in May 2024 on behalf of House Speaker Mike Johnson to congratulate President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) on their inauguration.
