The Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, August 4, that recent visits to Taiwan by United States lawmakers show the importance the U.S. Congress places on Taiwan. It added that Taiwan will continue to deepen bilateral cooperation and work to maintain and promote peace, stability, and prosperity for Taiwan, the United States, and the broader region.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Emeritus Michael McCaul is visiting Taiwan from August 2 through August 7. He met with Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) on August 4 and said he supports joint Taiwan-U.S. research, development, and production efforts, which are important for enhancing Taiwan’s defense capabilities and maintaining regional security. Lin expressed hope for continuing Taiwan-U.S. cooperation in third countries, working together to help partner nations enhance their resilience.

Prior to this, House Foreign Affairs Committee East Asia and Pacific Subcommittee Chair Young Kim led a bipartisan delegation of U.S. lawmakers on a three-day visit to Taiwan from July 30 to August 1.

The Foreign Ministry expressed gratitude to U.S. Congress for consistently demonstrating firm support for Taiwan through concrete actions over the years. It added that Taiwan will continue to work hand in hand with the U.S. Congress and the executive branch to deepen the comprehensive partnership between the two sides and to promote the wellbeing of both nations.
