Taiwan High Speed ​​Rail Corporation (#THSRC) celebrates its 20th anniversary with the arrival of new trains.

Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) unveiled its newly purchased, next-generation N700ST trains in Japan, with the first set due to arrive August 15 and enter service next year in July. 

The white, orange, and black train features a “Supreme Double-Wing” aerodynamic nose that cuts drag, noise and weight by about 13 metric tons, improving energy efficiency. Inside, deeper overhead racks, double-decker large-luggage zones, smaller windows for better sound and vibration damping, diaper-changing tables, and six wheelchair spaces upgrade comfort and accessibility. 

THSR Chairperson Shih Che (史哲) said a major timetable overhaul is planned next year to integrate the new fleet, which will run alongside the 34 existing 700T sets. All 12 N700ST sets will be fully in service by the end of 2028, lifting peak-hour capacity by about 25%.

Shih Che and Transportation Minister Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) attended the  Hitachi Kasado Works ceremony. The Kasado factory has a rich history with Taiwan, having produced trains for the Taiwan Railways Administration's Taroko Express and New Tze-Chiang Express, as well as the New Taipei Metro's San-Ying Line. Chen connected the rollout to broader goals in network resilience and the ongoing extensions in Yilan and Pingtung.
