President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) received a delegation from the U.S.-based think tank the Brookings Institution on Wednesday, August 5. Lai said that the organization’s research insights serve as an important bridge helping mutual understanding between Taiwan and the United States.

Lai said that there is room for even closer exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and the United States in fields such as AI supply chains, digital infrastructure, and high-tech talent cultivation. He added Taiwan is looking forward to working with the U.S. to build a non-red supply chain for drones, jointly promoting each other’s industrial development, and contributing to global peace and stability.

Brookings Institution’s John L. Thornton China Center Director Ryan Hass said that through annual research visits, the organization shows the importance it places on Taiwan-U.S. relations, shared bilateral interests, and shared values such as democracy and mutual respect. He said that this year’s visit to Taiwan will focus on technology and national security.
