Taiwan has blocked a Chinese government-launched platform aimed at recruiting young Taiwanese for study and employment, citing legal violations and risks involving the collection of personal data.

Mainland Affairs Council Deputy Minister Liang Wen-chieh (梁文傑) told reporters at a press briefing on Thursday, August 6, that the “Taiwan Youth e-Home” (台青e家) website listed jobs and school admissions opportunities in China and allowed users to submit résumés and applications online.

“This requires users to provide personal information, which is then used to collect data on young Taiwanese,” Liang said. “We believe this poses an extremely high risk.”

Liang said the website, which was launched by China’s Taiwan Affairs Office on July 15, may have breached Articles 23, 33, and 34 of the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area concerning assistance with Chinese school recruitment, employment brokerage, and advertising.

Taiwan previously blocked a similar Chinese website called “Follow the 31 Measures” in 2019, Liang added.
