The Michelin Guide has put 47 eateries in southern Taiwan on its 2022 Bib Gourmand list. This is the first year the list includes restaurants from southern Taiwan. The Bib Gourmand list was revealed on Tuesday ahead of Taiwan’s 2022 Michelin Guide, which will be released on August 30.
Taiwan’s new Bib Gourmand list has 141 eateries including 57 in Taipei, 37 in Taichung, 27 in Tainan and 20 in Kaohsiung. The Bib Gourmand distinction is awarded to Taiwanese venues that offer high-quality food for less than NT$1000.
The southern eateries include local specialty shops such as Tainan’s famous No-Name Salty Porridge and Kaohsiung’s Duck Zhen. The list includes many restaurants and street food stalls featuring authentic Taiwanese specialties. Highlighting the diversity in Taiwan’s culinary scene, the list also has Thai, Vietnamese and Sichuanese restaurants.
