Students from Kaohsiung's Municipal Baolai Junior High School and Nibun Chorus win gold at the 14th World Choir Games in Sweden, bringing Taiwan's Indigenous songs to the international stage.

Students from Kaohsiung Municipal Baolai Junior School joined the Nibun Chorus and traveled to Sweden to compete in the 14th World Choir Games. 

Wearing traditional indigenous clothing, the students delivered a polished performance, combining clear, powerful voices with synchronized choreography. 

"The champion is the Nibun Choir, Taiwan!"

The team won the gold medal in the Folklore and Indigenous Music with Accompaniment category, standing out among competitors from around the world. The students celebrated onstage while proudly holding a “Kaohsiung” flag. 

One student expressed, “I was very nervous during the award ceremony, but we won the gold medal. I'm very happy to have had this opportunity to bring honor to Taiwan.”

Behind the victory were months of intensive training, as the students learned to listen, adjust, and improve through setbacks. 

The school's principal Chang Ching-shu said, "This journey of thousands of miles was also a journey for the children to see themselves and the world." 

News of the victory quickly reached Taiwan. Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (小美奇) recorded a message of congratulations, saying, “Amazing! You are all the pride of Taiwan, and I'm so proud of you.”

The students used their voices to carry the culture of their hometown to the world, helping audiences see Taiwan and hear the voices of its children.
