Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration (CGA) reported on its joint training with the United States Coast Guard’s Mobile Training Team (MTT) on Friday, August 14. They stated that it enhanced maritime law enforcement and operational response capabilities and will further deepen professional exchanges between the agencies.

The U.S. Coast Guard MTT specializes in training international partner nations in small boat operations, maintenance, search and rescue, and maritime law enforcement. Its two-week-long course with Taiwan’s CGA began August 10, 2026.

The CGA pointed out that increasingly complex maritime law environments and challenges require frontline personnel to possess proficient boat operation skills, strong teamwork, on-site judgment, and emergency response capabilities. It emphasized that, in addition to enhancing participants’ professional skills, the most important aspect of this training was cultivating seed instructors with the ability to pass on their knowledge to their respective service units, expand the training's effectiveness, and establish a long-term, regular foundation for professional exchange.

The CGA also stated that since the signing of an MOU establishing coast guard cooperation between Taiwan and the United States, both sides have continued to work together in areas such as combating smuggling crimes, cracking down on illegal fishing, marine environmental protection, and more. It said it also hopes that through this two-week joint training, it can further contribute to maintaining security, peace, and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.
