Two of Taiwan’s national libraries participated in an exchange with South Korea’s Busan Metropolitan Library – donating 100 books to a ‘Taiwan Corner’ and signing an MOU for future cooperation.

The Education Ministry announced the exchange on Sunday, August 16, which involved Taiwan’s National Central Library (NCL) and the National Library of Public Information (NLPI).

Taiwan’s NCL donated 100 books to a dedicated ‘Taiwan Corner’ of the South Korean library covering a wide range of subjects from literature to natural sciences. The donation also included both the Chinese and English versions of Taiwan Travelogue – which recently won the 2026 Booker Prize.

Additionally, NLPI Director Ma Hsiang-ping (馬湘萍) and Busan Metropolitan Library Director Euna Park signed an MOU promising deeper cooperation. Ma said that the connection between the institutions began at the Asia-Pacific Public Library Forum held this May in the NCL. She said the idea for the MOU eventually came from both libraries’ shared visions and values. In the future, the institutions hope to cooperate in areas such as reading promotion, lifelong learning, resource sharing, and jointly addressing issues introduced by AI and the digital age.
