The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India’s (TECC) Education Division on Tuesday presented certificates to 47 Indian students who have received the Education Ministry’s Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES).

The HES allows students to study Mandarin for three months to a year at language centers across various schools in Taiwan. At the event, the TECC further arranged for dedicated staff to provide detailed explanations of procedures, such as visa applications.

India’s TECC Education Division Director Jill Lai (賴碧姬) said that the Education Ministry has offered this scholarship for many years in the hopes that international students can come to understand Taiwan’s culture, history, and local customs through language learning. She noted that learning Mandarin can also increase their chances of pursuing further education, earning degrees, doing internships, or even staying in Taiwan to work.

Lai hopes that through this kind of promotion, combined with the Education Division's regular study-in-Taiwan information sessions at universities across India, along with the joint efforts of Mandarin teachers at the 43 Taiwan Education Centers across India, they can not only teach Mandarin effectively but also promote the best of Taiwan, deepening higher-education exchange between the two countries.

One award recipient, Devendra Kumar, said Taiwan is a key hub for Indian students learning Mandarin, and the Huayu scholarship is one of the few channels through which Indian students can study in Taiwan. He said he is very eager for the chance to learn the language and experience Taiwanese culture, gaining an immersive learning experience.
