Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei won her third Wimbledon title on Saturday. She and her Belgian partner Elise Mertens won the women's doubles championship by defeating their Russian opponents Veronika Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina 3-6, 7-5, 9-7.

Hsieh was defending the championship title as she had won in 2019 and the tournament was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. In 2019, Hsieh won the championship with Barbora Strýcová of the Czech Republic. Hsieh also won the 2013 women’s doubles title at Wimbledon with China’s Peng Shuai. Hsieh and Peng also won the French Open together in 2014. 

Hsieh is known for her versatility as a doubles player. She has a technical mastery and clever gameplay that often outwits her opponents. She plays with two hands on both her forehand and backhand and has a variety of unorthodox shots. 

Hsieh, who is 35, is currently the world’s number two player in women’s doubles. She spent 39 weeks ranked the world’s number one in women’s doubles beginning on May 12, 2014. She is known as one of the most successful doubles players in history.
