American scholar Bonnie Glaser says that the US will continue to support Taiwan regardless of who wins the upcoming US presidential election. Glaser was speaking during a recent interview with Taiwan’s Central News Agency.

Glaser said that Taiwan has earned recognition from the US for its successful handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, she said that many US entities and other countries are seeking to work with Taiwan on a range of issues.

Glaser said that Taiwan does not have to be worried about its relations with the US if Democratic candidate Joe Biden wins the election. She also said that there should not be any concern in Taiwan that US policies will return to those of previous Democrats, because she said that times have changed.

Glaser said the only difference would be that Biden would choose to use a less public way to handle Taiwan issues so that China would not be provoked and harm Taiwan. Glaser also said that she believes a free trade agreement between Taiwan and the US is more likely to be realized under a Biden administration.
