Two Chinese hacker groups behind attack on gov’t offices identified

The justice ministry says it’s discovered that two Chinese hacker groups have infiltrated government offices and their data service providers.

Data service providers working with the government have become an easy target for Chinese hackers because they are in charge of developing and operating important government data systems.

The ministry has identified the two hacker groups responsible as Blacktech and Taidoor. The two groups have long infiltrated government department websites. In response, the justice ministry has asked government offices to avoid outsourcing data protection services to remote companies. The ministry also says that multi-factor authentication can help prevent hacking.

Chinese hackers are aware that government offices often provide remote desktop services and VPN log-in options for their data service providers, so the providers can operate and maintain the systems. The justice ministry says this has become the main source of security breaches, as hackers also know that the Taiwanese government often does not invest in security protection services or employ data security specialists.
