The Foreign Ministry stated on Tuesday, September 1, that industry, government, academia, and research institutions representatives from Taiwan, the United States, Japan, and Palau met at an expert forum in Palau to discuss climate and ocean governance solutions.

The Palauan government held an event titled “Securing the Blue Pacific: Scaling Tech-Driven Ocean and Carbon Stewardship for a Resilient Future” on Sunday, August 30. Among invitees were officials, experts, and representatives of important international NGOs from Taiwan, the United States, and Japan. The ministry said Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) asked scholars and experts from Taiwan’s “Carbon Rights Working Group” to attend the event and share Taiwan’s technical expertise in renewable energy, carbon governance, and enhancing energy and ocean resilience.

The Cabinet’s Office of Energy and Carbon Reduction Deputy Executive Director Lin Tze-luen (林子倫) represented Taiwan at the event and said in his remarks that Taiwan is willing to share its advanced research and technology in the area of blue carbon with its Pacific allies. The Foreign Ministry added that in the face of global climate change challenges, Taiwan and Pacific nations urgently need to address issues such as ocean and carbon governance. Taiwan is glad to share technology and experience in digital governance and low-carbon transition tailored to the specific needs of island nations.
