SEMICON Taiwan 2026, one of the world’s premier semiconductor industry events, kicked off at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center on Wednesday, September 2. In his remarks at the opening ceremony, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) likened the event to a gathering of martial arts masters, bringing together industry players from around the world to jointly explore humanity’s future.

This year's event drew over 4,300 exhibitors from more than 60 countries.

Cho noted that the semiconductor industry is highly globalized, with different countries playing different roles at various stages of the chipmaking process. He said that only through integration can the supply chain maintain resilience and allow all countries to share in the benefits, and that professional division of labor combined with cross-border cooperation enhances competitiveness.

Cho stated that TSMC and many international companies continue to invest in Taiwan, in areas like advanced manufacturing, packaging, and memory, which expands the country’s key role in the global supply chain. He said investing in Taiwan is beneficial for all parties, who gain development opportunities driven by technological progress.

Cho emphasized that the government will do its utmost to satisfy the industry’s electricity demand as well as facilitate investors’ access to land, infrastructure, talent, and financing.
