Bright neon signs light up as the night market officially opens. The location? Right inside Taoyuan Airport Terminal 2’s departure hall. The Taiwan International Airports Corporation launched the “Gate to Night Market” event on Sept. 1, themed “Get a Taste of Taiwan Before Your Departure.”
Foreign visitors try a giant retro wooden pinball game, laughing as they play. Others pose for photos beside oversized food stall props, including fried chicken legs, grilled corn, and plush toys.
Running until October 18, the event features hands-on games, food, and DIY crafts, allowing both local and international passengers to experience the charm of Taiwan’s iconic night markets before boarding. One passenger said, “Friends from every country can experience some of Taiwan’s traditional night market delicacies.”
There’s fun to be had and plenty to eat! With a boarding pass, travelers can not only exchange for limited-edition egg cakes, but also access an interactive snack challenge installation that links to terminal restaurants, highlighting classic snacks such as braised pork and fried chicken.
“We hope to showcase Taiwan’s night market culture right at our gateway,” said Airport Corporation Vice President Tony Chung-li Yu (余崇立). “Departing passengers can experience how interesting Taiwanese culture can be. This event includes many hands-on and tasting opportunities.”
Waiting for your flight? It’s no longer wasted time.
