A group of lawmakers established the Taiwan Parliament Group for Tibet  on Wednesday.

One of them, independent lawmaker Freddy Lim, says that Taiwan is standing firm on its principles of freedom, democracy, and universal human rights in the face of Chinese political oppression. He says the group will work with other parliamentary groups around the world to support freedom and human rights for Tibet.

Lim also says that Taiwan should openly welcome the Dalai Lama to visit at a time convenient to him. The Dalai Lama has visited Taiwan three times. In a video conference with Taiwanese followers held Monday on the occasion of his birthday, the Dalai Lama said that his birthday wish is to visit Taiwan once again.

Central Tibetan Administration Representative Dawa Tsering has expressed support for the newly-founded parliamentary group. He said, “Whether it's Tibet, Hong Kong, or Taiwan, we all face the same strong power. As a shameless government is oppressing, this is the right time to set up the Taiwan Parliament Group for Tibet.”
