Editor: Jake Chen

Taiwan is willing to build technological infrastructure with all countries without taking sides. That was the word from Science Minister Chen Liang-kee on Wednesday.

Chen was speaking at the opening of the 2019 Global Science & Technology Forum in Taipei. The forum is organized by the science ministry. This year’s forum is welcoming tech leaders from 18 countries to discuss key topics in the fields of science and technology.

During remarks at the opening of the forum, Chen commented on cybersecurity and the current US ban on Chinese tech companies. Referring to the words of former Foxconn CEO Terry Gou, Chen said that in the digital age when the world becomes one, Taiwan will assist all countries in need without favoring some over others.

Chen also highlighted a number of recent achievements by Taiwan’s tech sector. These include the successful launch of the Formosat-7 satellite program earlier this year and Taiwan’s contribution to the first- ever photograph of a black hole. Chen said that Taiwan’s tech sector is highly competitive and looks forward to deepening collaboration with other countries.
