Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said in an interview for POP Radio on Tuesday, September 15, that the process of establishing a representative office in the Philippine city of Cebu is going smoothly. He noted that the office would help build the Taiwan-Philippines Economic Corridor.

Lin said that both countries are closely interdependent along the first island chain. Both are free and democratic nations, both face pressure from China, have friendly relations with the United States, and are working to bolster supply chain resilience. He also noted that Taiwan and the Philippines have shared interests in security, economic ties, and people-to-people exchanges.

Lin said that establishing a new representative office in the Philippines would not only serve more people, but also help build the Taiwan Philippines Economic Corridor. He said, "This is all in progress and going smoothly. Actually, the preparations for the department, office, and staff are all being handled."
