Tibetan and Taiwanese musicians will join forces for a concert as part of the 2026 Tibetan Culture and Art Festival, which runs from September 29 to October 9.
The “Encountering Taiwan: In Harmony With The Mountains And The Sea” concert will feature internationally renowned Tibetan musician Tenzin Choegyal, Tibetan singer-songwriter Lhundup Tsering, and Paiwan Golden Melody Award-winning singer Seredau, among other Taiwanese and Tibetan musicians.
Speaking at a news conference Tuesday, Deputy Culture Minister Sue Wang (王時思) said the festival, organized by the Mongolian & Tibetan Cultural Center, is entering its 12th year.
This year’s performances demonstrate the diverse possibilities of connecting ethnic cultures through music and art, Wang said. She described how Seredau’s singing made people feel that the whole natural environment – the mountains and the sea – was singing in harmony, while Tenzin Choegyal’s voice made them feel they could also hear the echoes of children from the Tibetan region.
The Taipei performances will combine the traditional Tibetan instruments zhanian, a six-stringed instrument, and lingbu, a bamboo flute, with Western instruments. Musicians will perform with the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra and the Global Hakka Choir.
The first concert was held Tuesday, with further performances scheduled for tonight at the Taiwan Traditional Theater Center, October 3 at the Hualien Cultural and Creative Industries Park, and October 9 at the Chiayi Cultural and Creative Industries Park.
