The University of Zurich and Taiwan’s Representative Office in Switzerland signed an MOU September 30 to continue the Taiwan Studies Project, a lecture series and research initiative partnered with the Education Ministry. The agreement marks the project’s fourth phase of a five-year program running through 2031 that aims to deepen academic ties between Taiwan and Switzerland.
Dr. Steve Szu-Wei Wang (王思為), Taiwan’s representative to Switzerland, signed the MOU on behalf of the ministry alongside the dean of the University of Zurich’s Chinese Studies Department of the Institute of Asian and Oriental Studies (IAOS). Dr. Simona Grano, the project’s head, and other officials attended the ceremony.
In his remarks Wang said given the rapid changes in the current global geopolitical and economic landscape, Taiwan’s importance in global issues cannot be ignored. He described it as a great honor to continue cooperating with the University of Zurich to expand and deepen Taiwan studies in Switzerland and further promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and Switzerland in various fields.
University officials thanked Taiwan’s Education Ministry and the representative office for their support, noting the partnership has helped make Zurich a hub for Taiwan research in Switzerland while offering diverse courses and expanding research capacity. The Taiwan Studies Project is part of a broader ministry effort to establish academic collaborations with top universities worldwide to raise Taiwan’s global profile.
