According to a Foreign Ministry press release Thursday, October 1, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) recently wrapped up a visit to Belize, where he led a delegation of Taiwanese business representatives to discuss economic and commercial exchanges. He also formally announced that Taiwan will assist Belize in introducing electric buses and work to help Belize integrate with the regional e-bus supply chain.
This marks Lin’s fifth visit to Belize; he met with Belize Governor-General Froyla Tzalam and Prime Minister John Briceño and held bilateral talks with Belizean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Francis Fonseca.
The delegation’s main priority was to hold investment seminars and sign MOUs promoting bilateral industrial exchange and cooperation. More than 30 representatives covering sectors such as renewable energy, smart technology, and healthcare accompanied the minister.
During his visit, Lin also announced that Belize would adopt electric buses. Taiwan has previously introduced e-buses to its other diplomatic allies Palau and Paraguay.
Since the Taiwan-Belize Economic Cooperation Agreement took effect in 2022, Taiwan has fully opened its market to imports of Belizean frozen white shrimp and other seafood products. Lin said that shrimp imports have increased by more than 200% in 2026, demonstrating the robustness of the Taiwan-Belize partnership. He reiterated Taiwan’s determination to deepen economic and trade ties with its diplomatic allies through public-private cooperation.
