TPP Presidential Candidate Ko Wen-je’s (柯文哲) Youtube channel exceeded one million subscribers on Monday. This makes him the first Youtuber in Taiwan’s political arena to have reached this milestone.
In response to a media inquiry on the achievement, Ko remarked on Tuesday that he believes the enthusiasm of his supporters is increasing as the polling day draws near.
Ko also said that he hopes to change Taiwan’s political culture and complete the legacy and cultural movement of his predecessor, Chiang Wei-shui (蔣渭水), regardless of whether he is elected or not.
Chiang Wei-shui was a founding member of the Taiwanese Cultural Association in 1921 and the Taiwanese People's Party in 1927. Chiang is known in Taiwan’s history for being one of the most important figures in the resistance movement against Japanese rule and for promoting the idea of national self-determination.
