In response to New Taipei City Government’s claim that the Lai family house was illegally built in 2003, Lai Ching-te campaign spokesperson Kuo Ya-hui (郭雅慧) on Monday brought out a house registration form that dates back to 1971 to refute the accusation. Kuo also accused the city government of violating impartiality during the election campaign period.
The New Taipei City Government’s public work department released a statement on Sunday claiming that Lai’s house was built after the mines in the area were closed, contradicting Lai’s claim that it was a miners’ housing unit.
Kuo says the house was built in 1958 and that Lai was even born in the house. She says the KMT’s accusation that it is a luxury building was unfounded and that she is disappointed to see Lai’s opponent, New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih, using local government’s resources to do his partisan bidding.
The New Taipei City Government in return, says that it is following the law and that it was Kuo who is smearing the city government.
In the meantime, Lai is releasing his fourth campaign video to promote his policies and address the controversy surrounding his family house.
