President: Taiwan’s medical tech to join other Taiwanese powerhouse industries

Officials expand search area for lost fighter pilot
The search for lost F-16V fighter pilot Captain Hsin Po-yi (辛柏毅) is still ongoing, with an expanded search area. On Friday, Taitung County army extended the search from Changbin Township to the mouth of the Beinan River in Taitung, though as of noon there were no further results.

Taipei to offer free lunches to elementary and junior high school students
Taipei City plans to provide free lunches to all elementary and junior high school students beginning as early as this September. This Wednesday, the Taiwan Parents’ Education Alliance (TPEA) called for a clause to exclude children from wealthy families in order to direct funds to disadvantaged students, offering additional subsidies of up to three meals per day.

Search-and-rescue operations underway for Air Force pilot after F-16 crash
An F-16V fighter jet from the Air Force’s Fifth Tactical Mixed Wing in Hualien unfortunately crashed into the sea Tuesday evening. Although the pilot called out that he was preparing to eject, no ejection signal was received, so it remains uncertain whether he successfully ejected from the aircraft.
