Need a good reason to sterilize your pet? When you spay female cats is directly correlated to their risk of developing mammary cancer. Kittens spayed before six months of age have a 91% reduction in risk compared to non-spayed cats. Spaying between six months and one year results in an 86% reduction in risk. Over 90% of feline mammary tumors are malignant, according to Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Joanne Lynn Intile, meaning they grow invasively and spread across the body. As a university, what do you do when you have a stray dog problem and years of capturing and culling does little more than spark outrage among the student population? For one university, the next step was hiring some vet students to help with the culling incognito.
