EP091 - The Silicon Rush Boomtown

Let me tell you about a neighborhood you've probably never visited — but you've definitely felt.

It's called Guanxin, a borough on the east side of Hsinchu City. A borough, by the way, is Taiwan's smallest administrative unit — usually just a few city blocks. This week, the finance ministry confirmed that the average household on those few blocks earns roughly one hundred forty-four thousand US dollars a year. That's nearly five times the national average. It's officially the richest neighborhood in the country. Again.

Now, that sounds like a success story. And it is. But here's the thing — what built that street is the exact same thing holding up everything else. Which is exactly what we're looking at this week.
