Taiwanese Breakfast in Tâi-gí

As an island known for its delicious food, Taiwan believes that a great meal starts with the first meal of the day. This week, we’ll learn some Tâi-gí words related to breakfast in Taiwan.

●Words to know:
1. 早頓 tsá-tǹg (n.) breakfast
2. 卵餅 nn̄g-piánn (n.) egg pancake
3. 油炸粿 iû-tsia̍h-kué (n.) fried bread dough
4. 菜頭粿 tshài-thâu-kué (n.) turnip cake
5. 豆奶 tāu-ling (n.) soy milk
6. 米奶    bí-ling (n.) rice peanut milk

●Idiom of the week:
勸人做好代,較贏食早齋
Khǹg lâng tsò hó tāi, khah iânn tsia̍h tsá-tsai.
(Encouraging people to do good is better than eating a vegetarian breakfast.)
