EMIB090625_ANNA
Program Introduction
Anna and her Xinjiang dream and Uyghur boys
Of course the ‘Anna from Granada’ identity is a mock-up one. Like many of my European friends, she confessed in a low voice: ‘I still wish to enter China freely.’ Then she put on her sun-glasses before taking a snap with me in RTI’s studio. It was a joyous and also melancholic sharing of Anna’s infatuation with the minorities in China. And her eventual arrival in Taiwan to explore the diaspora of Hong Kong people. Young and vigorously concerned with the Chinese people, she is studying for her anthropology doctoral degree. Anna is amongst the community of European younger generation intellectuals trying to make sense of China’s modern history and its possible new relationship with the world.
