Johar — a greeting that conveys respect, honour, and a shared sense of solidarity among those who use it. Subhashish Panigrahi, a documentary filmmaker and digital archivist working with under-resourced languages, breaks down the meaning of johar (juhar) in his native Odia, as well as its role for a new generation of activists from marginalised communities across India.
