In English, we might call it postpartum care. But in Ekpeye, there’s a word that points to something deeper, longer, and more communal: Ọ́hwuikpèlèchì. Umasoye Igwe, founder of the Speak Ekpeye Fluently Language Initiative, joins us from Nigeria to unpack what this word reveals about language and intergenerational continuity — and to discuss the challenge of language apathy in her native community.

This episode of The Untranslatables Project was produced by Radio Taiwan International (Rti) in collaboration with Rising Voices, a global initiative amplifying endangered and Indigenous languages.
