Former Australian PM commends Taiwan’s defense capability progress
Taiwan will actively develop asymmetric defense capabilities and foster a more competitive defense industry to ensure the nation can safeguard the values of democracy and freedom, explained President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) this Thursday, Oct. 9.
The Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR) hosted the 2025 Taipei Security Dialogue, bringing together political leaders, scholars, and experts from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and Australia to discuss Indo-Pacific defense cooperation.
Lai met with former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, American Conservative Union Chairman Matt Schlapp, and American Defense International Chairman Van D. Hipp, among other participants. He thanked the visiting representatives for sharing their insights and expressed hope that stronger cooperation among democracies would translate into tangible support for Taiwan.
