The Kaohsiung city government has put out three giant inflatable animals to attract tourists. One of the most eye-catching installations is ‘Mikan’ the cat, the light rail station master that oversees train operations.
The 16-meter high, air-filled cat can be seen on top of the Love Pier Station trying to scoop up a shrimp. But on Thursday, Mikan appears to have deflated. Some tourists and internet users joke that Mikan has gone on strike due to the summer heat and some said he is too drunk to hold on to the building. One tourist says he thinks Mikan is just taking a break rather than going on strike.
Director of the Kaohsiung Cultural and Creative Development Center Chen Chia-hseng (陳嘉昇) told reporters that the installation’s surface was scratched during the pumping but it should be repaired in no time.
It’s safe to say that almost everyone loves the giant installation that resembles the real honorary station master. Whether on strike or taking a catnap, Mikan is purrfect.
